This longitudinal course is designed to present, interrogate, and create an ongoing conversation about the research in my doctoral dissertation, Spelling Stories and Spelling Science: How English Orthography Works. The purpose is to cultivate a community of scholars equipped with both an understanding of the science of English spelling and how to investigate it, and a critical eye toward the ways in which we talk about English, about spelling, about spellers, and about literacy.
It is structured as follows:
* 8 self-guided chapter readings, including discussion questions
10 monthly two-hour online discussion sessions (August through May)
Q&A and response exercises
Optional purchase of bound copy of dissertation upon publication
