Etymology!™ XI: Early Modern English – ONLINE ONLY
$225.00 – $499.00
Join us for the 11th annual Etymology!™ conference with Douglas Harper, ONLINE ONLY, March 31~April 2, 2023. We are again offering a 1, 2, or 3-day conference. Friday the 31st will cover Etymology Basics for those new to the study, or those who prefer a review to start out. Saturday and Sunday are the core of the conference, examining the eccentricities of Early Modern English spelling and its contributions to the present day system.
After three years of online Etymology! weekend conferences, we were hoping to return to a live, in person meeting in 2023, in sunny Scottsdale, Arizona. Unfortunately, but wasn’t meant to be, for a variety of reasons, not least, the costs of travel and venues.
Instead, we’ll return to our Zoom classroom study the richness of the history of English and the growth and development of its orthography, in the Early Modern English period. This is the time of Queen Elizabeth and Francis Bacon, William Shakespeare and the King James Bible. It is the age of the American colonies, the infancy of the modern tongue.
We are holding the conference costs for the fifth year in a row. There is no deposit or balance, just the total cost of the conference. Participants may elect to attend Friday only, Saturday & Sunday only, or all three day, in the drop-down menu.
All registrations include handouts, activities, links, access to recorded sessions, and additional resources.
Registrations canceled on or before 3/15/2023 are refundable less $50, and non-refundable thereafter. A registration discount will be available to Shameless Spelling subscribers. Please make sure to select the days you wish to attend.
