This longitudinal course is designed to investigate and interrogate the English sentence from an understanding of the word, the phrase and the clause. These structures and their constituencies are studied for both their form and function through the use of sentence trees. The purpose is to continue to grow a community of scholars unafraid of the study grammar and well-equipped to study it, notice it, and describe it with confidence and precision. The course will consist of 12 three-hour installments, delivered online in real time. Includes handouts and film resources. A New Form-Function Grammar of English by K. Aaron Smith is the required textbook.
LEXinars are delivered online, live in real time. They are not archived or recorded. Scheduling is never negotiated prior to registration.
